WAH-WAH x KAYLENE WHISKEY - CARDIGAN
The two Kaylene's (Kaylene Whiskey and Kaylene WAH-WAH) have compared notes, and they both realised what was missing in their lives - a cardigan version of their favourite knit!
Kaylene Whiskey's artworks are a celebration of strong women, whether it be her friends in Indulkana or well known celebrities such as Dolly Parton and Cher. These characters are bought to life amongst a celebration of culture in the APY lands, pop culture iconography and a love of rock and roll.
"I first came across Kaylene Whiskey's artwork back in 2017 when I was visiting the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. I was immediately drawn to this colourful canvas that captured an imagined world of pop cultural icons amongst the everyday goings on of life. I felt such a connection to the sense of escapism that different musical genres can inspire. The composition of the artworks were not all that unlike the colourful all over knitwear designs I had been working on with WAH-WAH. And then I saw the artists name! Another Kaylene! It was a sign, and I knew our paths would have to cross one day." -Kaylene of WAH-WAH AUSTRALIA
Kaylene Whiskey's audience continues to grow both in Australia and internationally. She was recently a finalist in the Archibald Prize, and won the Sulman prize in 2018. Sydney siders have recently had the pleasure of seeing her artwork projected on the sails of the Sydney Opera House along with the art of 5 other Indigenous female artists as part of Badu Gili.
This jumper is an ally-friendly purchase, as approved by Kaylene Whiskey:
“My art is for everyone - I want to share love, happiness, laughter and togetherness with everybody! Uwangkara tjungu, mulapa rikina! (Everyone together, looking so good!)” - Kaylene Whiskey
